HLHH DUPLEX

St Lucia, QLD 4067 | DA approved Nov 2023 | Under Construction

New Duplex, living "Flood Resilient"

Site 607m2

Floor 160m2 (per dwelling)

External (covered) 10m2 (per dwelling)

Floating lightly above the ground plane, HLHH 42 reinterprets the classic Queenslander for contemporary family living. Conceived as a duplex for two young families, the project embraces resilience, adaptability, and generosity of space within a tight, flood-prone suburban site.

Modest in footprint yet rich in experience, the homes are carefully elevated to protect against seasonal inundation, while opening wide to catch natural daylight and cooling cross-breezes. Visitors arrive at the heart of the plan — ascending into a sequence of light-filled spaces where kitchen, dining, and living areas extend onto deep balconies that overlook lush gardens beyond. A material language of white weatherboards and fine timber detailing grounds the project within its subtropical context, offering a quiet, familiar street presence softened by planted edges.

Internally, the architecture orchestrates simple pleasures — light shifting across walls, breezes filtering through louvres, the gentle porosity between inside and out — framing a daily life intimately attuned to climate and place. Crafted with a modest budget and a big heart, HLHH 42 offers a hopeful model for small-footprint, family-centred living in a changing Brisbane landscape.
